Padma Shri Awardee Shri Rajagopalan Vasudevan

Padma Shri Awardee Shri Rajagopalan Vasudevan is a man on a mission to clean India of its plastic waste. In 2002, he innovated an eco-friendly technique to construct roads with plastic waste. He patented the technique but chose to share the same with the government of India rather than selling it to private companies. The technique is currently being deployed in many cities. Dr. R. Vasudevan has been awarded with projects by AICTE, New Delhi. The Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi has also signed an MoU with him on Preparation of Status Report on Reuse of Plastics Waste in Road Construction and MoU on Performance Studies on Built Plastic Tar Roads. The Department of Science and Technology GOI, have also awarded him three projects worth INR 1.2 crore for finding the solutions to not only plastic waste but even other forms of waste. He has successfully built a low-cost toilet, under the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, using 'plastone'. Plastone is a product that he has devised using waste plastic.

Dr. R. Vasudevan was awarded with Tech Icon of India, by the India Today Group by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi, on October 2nd 2015. He was a nominee in Amazing Indians - Conducted by Times Now Group. He has also won the Tapman Award by Tamil Nadu Plastics Manufactures Association. The king of Mewar, Udaipur appreciated his service to the society and the environment with a "Maharana Udai Sing Award - 2017" The Kalam innovation centre recently awarded him the Dr Abdul Kalam Innovation Governance Award on January 20th 2018 and He is awarded Padma Shri award
