Héctor Fernández Elorza, Héctor Fernández Elorza Arquitectura, Madrid, Spain

Born in Zaragoza, Spain in 1972, Héctor Fernández Elorza studied architecture at Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM). He was awarded scholarship from the EU-exchange programme at the Darmstadt Institute of Technology in 1995 and 1996, and at the Technical Royal Institute of Stockholm in 1997 and 1998. His postgraduate studies were continued in Scandinavia, and he was awarded a grant by the Marghit and Folke Perzhon Foundation in 1999 and 2000. In this period he conducted dedicated research at the Architectural Museum Archive in Stockholm and the Alvar Aalto Foundation in Helsinki. His work, underplayed yet refreshing, comes across as warm in the context. The complex layers of the programme and context are dealt through simplicity in the form. His projects encounter the persistent underlying issues of the site with similar simplicity exploiting the materials and sensible usage of technology. Elorza is presently finalising possible projects for his PhD and has many publications to his name.
